Re: Earth Hour – Saturday, March 28 at 8:30p.m. – 9:30p.m. (local time)

History:
Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global initiative. (Source: www.earthhour.org)

Why Participate?
Earth Hour is a symbolic event. Turning off our lights for an hour won’t stop climate change but it does demonstrate that our individual actions are important and they add up to make a big difference.

How to Participate?
Everyone can participate in Earth Hour. And it’s as simple as flicking off a switch – literally. You can participate by yourself or with family, friends and just a few candles. Or check out what’s happening in your own community. There are many cities, community groups, restaurants and bars that participate or host Earth Hour events in your area.

Here are some simple tips to make Earth Hour a success:

1. Turn off all non-essential lights on Saturday, March 28 at 8:30p.m.
2. Encourage family, friends and co-workers to participate with you.
3. We ask that you turn off your computer, monitor and any task lighting before you leave work for the weekend
4. Visit Earth Hour’s international site http://www.earthhour.org/home/ or their Canadian site http://wwf.ca/earthhour/ for more information, including events in your area.
5. Sign up for Earth Hour at http://www.earthhour.org/signup/default:en  or on their Canadian site at http://wwf.ca/earthhour/earth_hour_signup_individuals/

Pattison Sign Group is doing its part to help support Earth Hour. Here are a couple of initiatives some of the regions are putting into effect for Earth Hour:

        - Seeking client permission to shut off all spectaculars along various highways for the duration of the event.
        - Turning off main building signs (not including security flood lights)
        - Making sure all employee computers and monitors are shut off for the weekend
